Educational Tools for Understanding Cancer

Good communication is one of the most important parts of good cancer care. When you understand your healthcare provider – and they understand you – you can make informed decisions, feel more confident in your care, and get the support you need at every step.

Cancer care often involves new words, tests, and treatment plans that can feel confusing or overwhelming. It’s always okay to slow down and ask your provider to:

  • Explain things in plain language

  • Repeat or write down important information

  • Show you what to expect using pictures or examples

  • Provide translated or accessible materials if needed

You are the most important member of your care team. Asking questions, taking notes, and sharing what’s important to you helps your provider give you the best care possible.
