The event celebrates leaders in the melanoma field, recognizes the courageous individuals who are bravely battling melanoma and shares some of the exciting medical breakthroughs that are on the horizon. The evening is also a wonderful culinary experience—featuring some of the best restaurants in the Denver area! The critical dollars raised at the Denver Wings of Hope for Melanoma gala will fund research grants to investigators across the United States who will explore better treatments for patients with cutaneous, ocular, mucosal and acral melanoma. The results of this research will pave the way to new treatment options.
This year, we will be honoring Leslie R. Capin, MD with the prestigious Humanitarian Award. Dr. Capin a renowned dermatologist and founder of Dermatology Associates of Colorado. She has been practicing dermatology since 1986 in the Denver area. Dr. Capin has also received numerous awards including “Top Doc” in Denver’s 5280 magazine, “Top Medical Day Spa” in 5280, Business Women of the Year in Healthcare by the Denver Business Journal and Top 100 Women Owned Businesses in The Denver Business Journal. She has also received a Presidential Citation from the American Academy of Dermatology.
This year we will also be honoring a physician who works closely with Dr. Capin—John Fox Bershof, MD, FACS who will be honored with the Compassionate Care Award. Dr. Bershof has been in plastic surgery private practice in Denver since 1991. In addition to practicing a wide spectrum of plastic, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery he has a special interest in helping patients who are in need of reconstructive surgery following skin cancer and melanoma treatment and the removal of abnormal moles. Dr. Bershof has received annual kudos from his fellow Denver physicians by being a perennial inductee into the 5280 Magazine Top Doctors.
