2023 Palliative Care Days  October 10-11, 2023 Palliative Care Research Day Tuesday, October 10, 2023 Anschutz Medical Campus Health Sciences Building, Elliman Conference Center 1890 N. Revere Court, Aurora, CO 80045 8:30 am - 1:30 pm MDT (In-person) Contact for questions: Arianna Villalobos: arianna.villalobos@cuanschutz.edu Keynote:   Alexia M. Torke, MD Dr. Alexia Torke is a Professor of Medicine and Associate Division Chief of General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics, Indiana University School of Medicine. She is Director of the Evans Center for Religious and Spiritual Values in Healthcare and a Research Scientist with the Indiana University Center for Aging Research at Regenstrief Institute. Dr. Torke received her undergraduate degree from Carleton College and her M.D. from Indiana University. She completed residency in Primary Care-Internal Medicine at Emory University in Atlanta, GA and fellowship training at the University of Chicago from 2005-2007 in Primary Care Health Services Research and Ethics, funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration. Dr. Torke's research focuses on spiritual, religious, ethical, and communication aspects of medical decision making for older adults. Her current research focuses on surrogate decision making for older adults with dementia and other forms of cognitive impairment, including randomized trial of spiritual care in the ICU setting and advance care planning for older adults in the community. She has received funding from the NIH, the Greenwall Foundation and other foundation sources. She practices outpatient palliative care at IU Health Methodist Hospital. Her visit is hosted by the University of Colorado Program in Palliative Care Research. In addition, the agenda will include completed research studies and quality improvement projects relevant to palliative care.
